Community Expanding
A big goal of mine is to always be connected to Gaia, in many ways than one.
I would always take and pick my younger brother up from school, near his school was a huge field of sunflowers surrounded by a gate, I seen some one there before but promised myself that if I ever saw someone there again I'd go and have a conversation with them. Divinely as I rode pass to drop my brother off, I saw two people working in the field. I of course kept my promise and as God would have it I met the owner, an older black man they called Mr.B (Mr. Buckner). He explained to me the field was actually a community donation based farm/ garden that taught children agriculture and entrepreneurship while also giving any of the children who work there monthly stipends as well as a 4 year scholarship to seniors with a 3.0 gpa to the hbcu they had listed. The farm welcomes everyone and never truly charges for anything only getting what people had to give. I was very impressed and started volunteering immediately, during my time there we have become a family. I started learning and teaching agriculture as well as teaching children what I knew. During my time there I have learned more than agriculture I have learned what a safe community can do for children, I have seen children who were labeled troubled become the most hard working, the shiest becoming the most out spoken and all of them going from misunderstood to loved. This space has become a safe space for me, has shown me community, has given me love and opportunities when I felt as though I had none. They have helped me start to reach my goals of cleaning this earth with their annual beautify Columbus walks on MLK day cleaning the streets and has helped me give and receive information. Not to mention connected me to family that I never knew I had (shoutout to Mrs. Mary a woman who has truly changed my life). I now know what community can do. My biggest thing is to try and connect with people no matter where I go in this world. Connection & community are everything.
Community projects
A hired project from the farm to paint the windows of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church. I spent over a month or two joined by my friend Kalah Williams painting the inside of this church were I got to learn about them and what they do for the community, I met so many elders and still attend from time to time, They paid more than asked and took very good care of us during our time there.
